asymmetric radio emission, another hybrid?

  • WizardHowl by WizardHowl

The strong radio emission here shows the right hand #jet to be far more expansive than the left but am not sure if this is just a line-of-sight effect, as if it were angled almost directly towards us. Possibly a #hybrid if this is not the case? How rare are hybrids expected to be? From what I've personally analysed, hybrid-like candidates seem to be rarer than IFRS candidate sources by a factor of 4-5 or more (although I realise my limited statistics are not the best guide) and I think IFRS only constitute ~3% of known sources?

Hybrids are very, very rare. We know only a handful of them.

Only less than 1% of all radio galaxies are hybrids according to current statistics.

This is a very interesting one, and definitely a candidate for #hybrid! To confirm it though we'd need to check much higher resolution data (to see the jets close to black hole) and much lower resolution data to be able to track the diffuse emission of the left lobe as I bet it's resolved out in this image (too high an anhular resolution for faint diffuse emission).

Very good question about the stats @WizardHowl !
