pardon my ignorance on this, but I clicked into the SDSS data for this one and into the spec graph (I know WHAT that is, but not necessarily how to interpret what I'm looking at) and I see a redshift (z) of 0.32. Do you have any links to a "layman" way of figuring out what .32 means in terms of something more "conventional" like light years?

There is absolutely fantastic calculator http://www.astro.ucla.edu/~wright/CosmoCalc.html that will give all sorts of distance measurements for a given redshift. Use the defaults on the left side with the
general button and just change redshifts to your liking 😃Posted
