"aim"?

  • basst82 by basst82

On first glace, looks like #doublelobe, but the lower left jet appears to be "aimed" the wrong way for it to be from a central source. So does this mean its a corejet from the other IR source right underneath it, or does the "aim" not really matter? Also, SDSS can't find either the IR that looks like the central source, nor the IR that looks like it might be the single source for the bottom one.

yes, the direction (which you call aim) does matter. so the lower lobe and the IR source "underneath" it are chance superpositions. the central host galaxy of this radio galaxy will be between the two radio signals - the fainter orange blob we can see

I'd rather say that the lower left component is a somewhat extended radio lobe. Just think of the shape of Cygnus A's radio lobes when looked at from a much larger distance. I would also identify the faint IR object between the two radio components as the host galaxy.
