ARG0000giy - strange radio morphology; host with dusty spectrum
-
by JeanTate
Here's the field, per SDSS:
SDSS J090320.45+523336.1 is located within a WISE pixel or so of the saddle in the radio contours, so I picked that as the most likely host.
What's with the 'bump' on the NE side of the southern lobe/jet?
What do I mean when I say SDSS J090320.45+523336.1 has a dusty spectrum?
The continuum is red, and only somewhat like a typical 'dead and red' elliptical; dust preferentially 'extinguishes' blue wavelengths, and adds a 'tilt' to a galaxy's (or star's) spectrum. Just like this one.
Of course, dust is not completely unknown in an elliptical's spectrum, even a BCG's, but it is rare (as far as I know); it's far more common in the bulges of spiral galaxies ...
As the host of a radio-bright pair of jets/lobes (if it is, indeed, the host), is SDSS J090320.45+523336.1 unusual, to have a dusty spectrum?
