ARG00019l1 One source galaxy or 2 sources of radio contours?

  • A1001 by A1001

NORTH SDSS J110222.94+380122.4 2MASS J11022294+3801225 -- BL Lac - type object the source of the 2 radio contours.
Is SDSS J110223.82+380117.2 the other radio source?
What is a BL Lac - type object ?

I think there are two independent radio sources (hosts), SDSS J110222.94+380122.4 (left, zsp 0.3916±0.0001), and SDSS J110223.82+380117.2 (right, zsp 0.3901±0.0001):

Neither of these is a BL Lac object. I think the identification of SDSS J110222.94+380122.4 2MASS J11022294+3801225 being a BL Lac object by Plotkin+ (2008) - which is where the NED identification comes from - may be in error. It may meet their formal selection criteria, and there may be an AGN obscured by dust, but ... That this object is both a UV and an x-ray source certainly points to it having an AGN, as does its 'flat spectrum' in the radio.

"BL Lac" is shorthand for BL Lacertae, the name of what seemed to be a blue variable star and is now the name for these types of AGN (active galactic nuclei). This Wikipedia article is a helpful introduction.
