Radio Galaxy Zoo Talk

What's going on?

  • schattenallerbaume by schattenallerbaume

Hi, I think this is a bit odd.
I cannot relate the central radio source to a IR source, so I think it's a plasma cloud or so
But what can you say about the left radio source? It overlaps just in part with the big IR source, which has an odd shape in my opinion. What could it be?
I hope someone can figure this out and enlighten me 😉

    Hi @schattenallerbaume,
The IR source between the 2 radio lobes is the most likely host galaxy. The radio lobes or jets can appear slightly different on each side depending on the alignment of these lobes/jets with our line-of-sight. So even though the lobe on the left (or East) appears to overlap with another IR source, this is just a coincidence. To check this, you can click onto the SDSS link and have a look at the optical image. You can see that this IR source is actually a star from the Milky Way. So it's unlikely to be hosting the radio lobe that we see.
I hope that this is helpful
    cheers,
    Ivy
