Can there be more than one infrared sources?

The reason we compare to an IR image is because as we look further back in time (to higher redshifts), these galaxies will fade in the optical wavebands and are only visible in the IR. As we probe to even higher redshifts, these galaxies might not even be visible in the IR any more and we'd require maps in the mm-wavelengths to see if a galaxy exists.
