Not marked Radio signal

  • Marcel_R. by Marcel_R.

If you watch at the left site of the marked Radiocontour you can see a lighter spot in the radio picture.
What do I have to do with this if i can´t check it?
Also in the IR picture you can find a brighter spot (a bit smaler)

Welcome to RGZ, Marcel R.! 😃

That 'lighter spot' is radio emission that is not strong enough to be marked as a source for us to classify. Or almost; it seems that it's a 'single pixel contour', which is next to impossible to click on, in the classification screen. IMHO, this is a design problem (no one really expected that there'd be any significant number of 'single pixel contours, or that they'd be so hard to check); fortunately, for the science - again, IMHO - it's not a problem, because rarely are such sources important on their own (and they're never (?) the focus of a field, never right in the center).

And that's not even considering how many of these really faint radio sources are real, and how many are artifacts (faint artifacts are very common).

Also in the IR picture you can find a brighter spot (a bit smaler)

In the IR it's somewhat similar, except that artifacts are more like 'noise' in SDSS images than those in radio images (it has to do with how the images are created, from the actual observations); sometimes the faint IR source is real - a very distant galaxy perhaps - but sometimes not. If the faint blob has a name, then it's more likely real than not; otherwise, vice versa.

Hope this helps, and happy hunting! 😄
