Radio jet with possible IR source

  • MgkkN by MgkkN

The radio contour in the center of the image is troublesome. It's not easy to decide whether there is no IR source assiociated with it (there is one slightly below). I suppose this may be the source of a half of the radio jet.

    Welcome to RGZ, MgkkN! 😃

This is a rather typical #triple, which is a central radio source (a.k.a. core) and two lobes. The lobes are regions of hot, very rarefied plasma; very rarely do they have associated IR sources (at least in WISE). The core is the host galaxy, in the center of whose nucleus is a supermassive black hole, which produces the observed radio emissions (the lobes are where the back-to-back jets terminate). In this case, the galaxy is so far away that it's invisible in SDSS, but there's obviously an IR source:

Hope this helps, and happy hunting! 😄
