two compact ifrs or one jet?

  • WizardHowl by WizardHowl

I marked this as two #compact radio sources with no IR counterpart. There is a very weak knot in the IR in between them but given their distance apart, their strength and the symmetry of both radio sources, it seemed more likely that this is a case of two #ifrs sources that happen to be near each other. Given the rarity of ifrs sources, though, I could easily have made the wrong call on this.

I agree, these are probably independent sources. There is no hint of an extension of either one, pointing to the other. Two extended back as teardrops towards each other would be the sign of a #double , while one teardrop pointing back to a compact source would be a compact active galactic nucleus (AGN, the black hole) and the teardrop the bright end of a jet. So, in their absence, likely two separate.
