ARG00038lv: pure jet?

  • JeanTate by JeanTate

In the center of ARG00038lv, the morphology of the radio emission is like a 'flattened hourglass' or just a projected cylinder. There's no object, either IR or SDSS optical, at the center. However, STAR SDSS J210409.59+080228.7 may be the host, and the radio emission a pure jet ...

I think that this is a very high-z hourglass. It could be an #IFRS

    Thanks! 😃

I guess you're right ... but how exciting if turned out to be a jet!

Hmm ... I reserve that tag for considerably brighter (more luminous? stronger? what's the word radio astronomers use?) sources; faint radio sources with no apparent optical or IR host are very common ...

Jets are not as easy to produce.

Astronomer use the term "radio-loud" for very luminous radio AGN that is not strongly emitting in the optical/IR/X-rays. You can find specific quantitative definitions of this from papers by Ivezic 2002 etc.
