Two quasars, so close, so far

  • JeanTate by JeanTate

ARG0000giz has two optically bright, radio loud, quasars, just a few arcsecs apart on the sky, but bazillions of light-years apart in the Universe. The two are zsp 0.678 SDSS J104146.77+523328.2 (centre), and zsp 2.298 SDSS J104148.89+523355.5 (NE):

Following paper is related, but isn't radio astronomy.:

Quasars probing quasars X: The quasar pair spectral database
Authors: JOSEPH R. FINDLAY et al.

The rare close projection of two quasars on the sky provides the
opportunity to study the host galaxy environment of a foreground quasar
in absorption against the continuum emission of a background quasar. (...)
